Rosa Amelia Bou, a Peruvian friend who owns a catering company in Lima came to assist me at a wedding last week. With her visit I have learned many things that could enrich weddings in Mexico and want to share 5 essential points:

1. Designer dresses. Mexicans (at least the chilangas) have more confidence buying a dress at a bridal boutique... In Peru, brides get their dress made by a designer or seamstress. It's not such a bad idea, right? I've had a couple of clients who have had their dress made and it turned out to be more flattering to their figure. I think we could adopt this custom in Mexico.
2. Buffet. In Peru, the dinner protocol does not exist , they use cheese buffet, ceviches stations, dessert tables, etc. There is food available all night, not only during the first hour of the wedding. In addition, not having a sit down dinner results in an hour more for partying. Certainly in Mexico this format also would stick!
3. Bride and Groom Dance . We tend to do this dance after dinner. As Peruvians do not have that protocol, the couple go straight to the dance floor. The first dance track opens the dance floor and hence the music is not interrupted by anything.
4. Dance Floor. Therefore, the dance floors are twice the size of what is customary in Mexico, since they are the focus of the event. It's funny that we like the little dance floors in order for them to always look full, but would someone dare build a huge one?
5. Tables assigned. Peruvians are more practical and only assign important tables. In fact, there are no tables for all guests, as some sit in lounges and people take their place following a natural order. I'm sure more than one bride would vote to skip the nightmare of table allocation, right?
What about u, have you attended weddings in other countries? In which? What did you think? Share us your experiences!
